Blockhouse no 8

The Atlantic Wall Series by Nicholas Gentilli – limited edition photography prints for sale

Blockhouse No 8  documents Hitler’s Atlantic Wall. The Atlantic Wall fortifications were built along the coast of Europe from Denmark in the North to Spain in the south. Hitler used concrete to create Blockhouses which were above ground and designed to repulse attack by the Allies in World War two. Many of these fortifications still exist and I am interested in the way that over the last 70 years nature’s unstoppable force has eroded the harsher elements of these structures and rounded and softened them until they become objects both representative of the power of nature and the power of man. The passage of time is the great healer here and it is keenly felt in these decaying structures.
